The Nuit is still young! Montreal, February 8, 2010 — The Nuit blanche à Montréal, presented by Hydro‑Québec as part of the MONTREAL HIGH LIGHTS Festival, celebrates its 7th birthday this winter. This year’s edition is especially zany and free-spirited, the magical kickoff for all other “Nuits Blanches” that follow in 15 cities around the world inviting residents and visitors alike to discover their cities from a uniquely different perspective.  

On Saturday, February 27, Montreal High Lighters can discover their city by night with 180 activities—most of them free—held indoors and outdoors in over three quartiers (districts) and one pole (sector) of the city. The Nuit blanche à Montréal’s nocturnal promenade takes place from Old Montreal and the Quays of the Old Port, the Quartier des spectacles and the downtown core, the Plateau-Mont-Royal et Mile-End, and to the Pole Maisonneuve 

The site of the BMO Bank of Montreal Celebration of Light site: the heart of the NuitThe Celebration of Light site in Place Jacques-Cartier in Old Montreal and on the Quays of the Old Port are the meeting and starting points for the Nuit blanche celebrations. Calling All Nighthawks! sets loose its costumed characters and fire-eaters at 7:30 p.m., presented by Hydro‑Québec as part of the Quays of the Old Port Events. At 8 p.m., it’s Pleins feux sur la Nuit blanche, an eye-popping full-colour pyrotechnics display, part of the BMO Fireworks series, which will be followed by a musical spectacle. 

The Nuit on foot, by Metro and by free shuttlesAgain this year, Montreal’s Metro will remain open all night long and beginning at 8 p.m. Saturday evening until 5 a.m. Sunday morning, a free shuttle service will link the three districts allowing celebrants to move easily and quickly from one district to another. 

So much more to experience!Live performances, music, exhibitions and design will cast their spell over the city with attractions and events including a winter fairyland in the Place des Festivals and a redesigned ” Underground City” of Art souterrain. The arts exhibit features 104 projects including photos, videos, installations and performances along four kilometres of underground corridors between Complexe Les Ailes and Place des Arts.

The 11th annual MONTREAL HIGH LIGHTS Festival runs from February 18 to February 28 and has grown into one of Canada’s largest winter city celebrations attracting over 750,000 participants over 11 days. In addition to the Nuit Blanche in Montreal Presented by Hydro-Québec, the MONTREAL HIGH LIGHTS Festival stages a series of events including SAQ Wine and Dine Experience presented by Air France, the Sun Life Financial Performing Arts and BMO Bank of Montreal Celebration of Light.
