Québec Has Three Podcast Routes

Visitors to Québec who want to try something new can download three
new podcast routes free of charge on the Web site of the Office du
tourisme de Québec[1] (OTQ). These routes are available in French[2]
and English[3].

These routes are accessible by bicycle, by car or by bus and provide
a completely new and lively way to discover the rich tourism offerings
of the historic boroughs of Beauport, Charlesbourg and
Sainte-Foy-Sillery. Each borough has on average seven places of
interest.

One Million Dollar Investment at Village Vacances Valcartier

HOT WATER AND ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY EFFORTS

Village Vacances Valcartier[6] has invested over one million dollars
this year for a water heating system and recycling bins. This
investment is part of an important initiative to become more
environmentally-friendly and promote sustainable development.

The new reversible water heating system recovers the heat so that
swimmers can enjoy heated water in all the pools on the site. This
project will enable Village Vacances Valcartier to cut its
kilowatt-hours of electricity consumption by half during the summer
season. The purpose of these water heaters is to maintain the water
temperature of all the attractions at approximately 80 degrees
Fahrenheit for the visitors’ comfort.

The Village Vacances Valcartier has also added 45 recycling bins for
glass, plastic and aluminum. These containers, which are placed
throughout the water park and campground, will make it easier to
recycle a wider variety of material.

Travel + Leisure Readers Love Québec

In 2009, readers of Travel + Leisure magazine[9], rated La Vieille
Capitale number three among the best tourist destinations in North
America (United States and Canada). Last year the city was rated
number six.

For all destinations, on all continents, Québec is classed number 19
this year. Travel + Leisure readers named New York City as the best
destination in the United States. San Francisco was second. Québec
City’s 400th anniversary festivities and the promotions that were
geared toward the American market in 2008 contributed to this
recognition.

Cities all over the world are evaluated for their scenic points,
culture and art of living, restaurants, food, people, values and
boutiques.

Hiking, Cycling and Mountain Biking

The Vallée Bras-du-Nord[10] located in the Portneuf region has 80 km
of hiking trails for nature lovers and 50 km of mountain biking trails
for adventure lovers. Moreover, it is now possible to practice
canyoning on this spectacular site!

This year’s star attraction is definitely the gorge in the sector of
rivière Sainte-Anne, winner of the national Grand Prix du Tourisme’s
Gold medal in the “Sustainable Tourism” category. Hikers will enjoy
the many impressive and sometimes rocky trails along the river on the
site of the eco-chalet.

Jacques-Cartier-Portneuf cycling route toward the Vieille Capitale.
The multipurpose Dansereau route[13], ideal for families, follows the
wonderful Jacques Cartier River. Not to be missed is the Chemin du
Roy[14], explore it by bicycle, on foot or by car!

Fascinating Egyptian Mummies exhibition

The Fascinating Egyptian Mummies exhibition[17] offers a look into
the captivating universe of ancient Egyptian funeral rites. It unveils
a wealth of information about their belief in the afterlife, the
process of mummification and the eternal resting place, the tomb.

Some 225 amazing artifacts are presented in the exhibition, including
the mummy of Ankhor and its three coffins, the mummy of Nen-Ou-Nef,
who lived in Thèbes around 1550-1307 B.C. and a cat mummy dating back
to the Roman era. At the Musée de la Civilisation until April 2010.
