Ontario’s South Coast Wines
A relatively new addition to the area is the Ontario’s South Coast Wineries and Growers Association – made up of 9 wineries (and growing) – “committed to developing a vibrant and distinctive wine industry in Ontario’s South Coast…”. The temperatures and sandy soil conditions in Norfolk County make for good growing of grapes.
Burning Kiln Winery – St. Williams
Newest winery opening May 13th, 2011.
Burning Mills Vineyard – Port Dover
Burning Mills wines are Amarone-style produced using the appassimento process, a style that originated in the Verona region of Italy. Grapes are harvested perfectly ripe by carefully choosing bunches having fruits not too close to each other. The length of the drying process is typically several months but varies according to harvest conditions. The final result is a very ripe, delicious, big-bodied wine.
Burning Ice is produced from grapes that have been frozen while still on the vine. The sugars and other dissolved solids do not freeze, allowing a more concentrated grape must to be pressed from the frozen grapes, resulting in a smaller amount of more concentrated, very sweet wine.
Florence Estate Winery – Langton
Nestled amidst its own vigorous vineyards and surrounded by acres of spectacular Carolinian Forests, Florence Winery provides a heady range of experiences. The winery itself offers relaxed, unpretentious wine tastings in an atmosphere that welcomes comparisons and comments. The café provides locally grown menus guaranteed to please all types of tastes. And the wine and gift shop allows visitors to select from the delicious wines produced on the property and take them home to share.
Villa Nova Estate Winery – Villa Nova
Our wine is made from 100% Ontario fruit. Most come from our vineyard or other growers in Norfolk County.
Wooden Bear-L Winery – Simcoe
The winery specializes in wines produced from fruit other than grapes produced on the glacial sand plain deposits from the last ice age which adds a distinctive flavour to the wine.
