SALT LAKE CITY (November 6, 2012) – Salt Lake — the world’s largest ski town — is experiencing a true Renaissance, thanks to the recent opening of a $2 billion redevelopment project, City Creek, as well as two groundbreaking museums and scores of new restaurants and bars. With the upcoming completion of the TRAX light rail line from Salt Lake City International Airport to downtown, just 40 minutes from Salt Lake’s four world-class resorts and their respective 500-plus inches of “The Greatest Snow on Earth,” skiers and snowboarders have the makings of the ultimate vacation this winter. Skiers heading to the mountains from downtown this winter will find that Ski Salt Lake’s four resorts are ready for another stellar season.

  • Alta, the classic resort known for its incredible snow conditions and dramatic terrain, celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2013. www.alta.com
  • Brighton continues its leadership as the best skier’s value in Utah, a resort beloved by Salt Lake locals for its affordable lift tickets and awesome terrain. www.brightonresort.com
  • Snowbird unveils its new Little Cloud high-speed quad chairlift. The new lift accesses the same epic terrain, while reducing the ride time from 7 minutes to 3.5 minutes. www.snowbird.com
  • Solitude is offering skiers great deals, including a 25 percent discount on any room all season (excluding holidays) as well as 25 percent off lift tickets. www.solitude.com

Skiers and boarders can book Ski Salt Lake vacation packages by January 15, 2013, to receive early-season savings. Packages include the Ski Salt Lake Super Pass, the industry’s most convenient and value-driven lift pass, allowing skiers to visit each of the four world-class resorts, plus receive FREE transportation to/from the resorts on Utah Transit Authority (UTA) Ski Buses and ski rental discounts. Stay & Ski Packages offers savings of 15-25 percent. (Ski Salt Lake Super Pass)

Beyond the slopes, downtown Salt Lake City has seen more than 20 new restaurants open in recent months, including Vivace, an Italian rosticceria; Pallet, serving contemporary American cuisine; and Finca, a new Spanish tapas bar and restaurant. These are among the new breed of high-design, high-concept restaurants that have been part of the transformation turning Salt Lake into the hottest dining destination in the West.

At the heart of Salt Lake’s Renaissance is the vibrant new 23-acre City Creek Center. The new fashion and dining destination is sure to entice après skiers with more than 90 stores and restaurants. Two new museums also opened in 2012. The architecturally stunning Natural History Museum of Utah tells the world’s history through the state’s expansive geological past, while The Leonardo is a visionary museum combining science, are and technology that takes an interactive approach to engaging visitors.

In early 2013, work on the TRAX light rail line from Salt Lake City International Airport to downtown is to be completed, allowing visitors to travel seamlessly by light rail from the airport to the city center and then to the ski slopes of Ski Salt Lake’s resorts via the UTA Ski Buses, all part of the complimentary TRAX and bus passes offered with each Ski Salt Lake Super Pass.

“The TRAX connection further enhances Salt Lake’s standing as the most convenient ski destination in North America,” commented Scott Beck, President & CEO of Visit Salt Lake. “Skiers will find access to the mountains even quicker and easier, thanks to the UTA system taking them to the from the airport to the slopes. Renting a car will become a luxury, not a necessity. It’s not only environmentally friendly, but it makes skiing Alta, Brighton, Snowbird and Solitude even more affordable and accessible.”
