Downtown Renaissance Transforms Salt Lake

SALT LAKE CITY (November 6, 2012) – Salt Lake — the world’s largest ski town — is experiencing a true Renaissance, thanks to the recent opening of a $2 billion redevelopment project, City Creek, as well as two groundbreaking museums and scores of new restaurants and bars. With the upcoming completion of the TRAX light rail line from Salt Lake City International Airport to downtown, just 40 minutes from Salt Lake’s four world-class resorts and their respective 500-plus inches of “The Greatest Snow on Earth,” skiers and snowboarders have the makings of the ultimate vacation this winter. Beyond the slopes, downtown Salt Lake City has seen more than 20 new restaurants open in recent months, including Vivace, an Italian rosticceria; Pallet, serving contemporary American cuisine; and Finca, a new Spanish tapas bar and restaurant. These are among the new breed of high-design, high-concept restaurants that have been part of the transformation turning Salt Lake into the hottest dining destination in the West.
At the heart of Salt Lake’s Renaissance is the vibrant new 23-acre City Creek Center. The new fashion and dining destination is sure to entice après skiers with more than 90 stores and restaurants. Two new museums also opened in 2012. In early 2013, work on the TRAX light rail line from Salt Lake City International Airport to downtown is to be completed, allowing visitors to travel seamlessly by light rail from the airport to the city center and then to the ski slopes of Ski Salt Lake’s resorts via the UTA Ski Buses, all part of the complimentary TRAX and bus passes offered with each Ski Salt Lake Super Pass.
