Lanark County Trip August 2013

Nordlaw Lodge
We left Downtown Toronto on Friday and after 3,5 hours on highway we reached Nordlaw Lodge in Lanark County. Excited, we unpacked our car, had delicious dinner, and just from the dock kids went fishing. The Nordlaw Lodge (613)2733-2920 is kind of rustic place with good food, roomy cabins, and great fishing.

After dinner our main entertainment was fishing. Right after couple of minutes, kids caught perch, then pike… walleye, catfish, carp… Small were released back, large enough were kept for dinner next day.

Saturday morning we decided to visit OMYA’s Tatlock Quarry.

The side road to quarry observation deck turned white, like covered with snow. Even we didn’t have a chance to see huge dumptrucks working, the size of the quarry was impressive. There were few stones left to play on observation deck . We built two friendly Inuksuks from nearby calcytic marble stones. Driving South on HWY35 we stoped in Balderson Village, famous for “Balderson Cheese”, The Amish Furniture store, good restaurant and ice cream shop.

After we drove to see Bisons on the Battle River Bison Farm…It was rainy that day, so we didn’t go to see other animals, like, llamas, alpacas, and Clydesdale horses.

Saturday afternoon we took a scenic boat ride with Tay Canal Tours from Last Duel Park along the Rideau Waterway to Lock #5 and back. Captain David entertained us with folk stories, quizes, wildelife and bird information along the trip…At the end of the trip kids got surprises…

We caught enough fish for our group of six for dinner. Bob and Roxanne, from Nordlaw, friendly prepared and cooked our fish. We enjoyed yammy Fishsticks… and admired the beautiful view of the sunset lake.
