Think punk rock playlists, inspired cocktails such as “God Save the Queen” and a retro menu of the
Great British classics.
April 14, 2011. (London, UK)–Getting tired of all the Royal Wedding hysteria and want something different to do over the Easter break? Then slip on your leather biker and skinny jeans and release your inner rebel by taking a booth at the Met Bar and indulging in the An-Tea Establishment Afternoon Tea, available at the Met Bar from April 22 – May 8, 2011.
Paying homage to British punk rock icons of the past, this tea will have all the elements of the quintessential British occasion but with a distinct Metropolitan twist, using ingredients that satisfy without the high calories.
Dishes include ‘Quiche a la Fergie’, with chorizo and spinach on a thin pastry base; no bread cucumber sandwiches featuring layered cucumber jelly with a bread foam and a healthy take on a prawn cocktail using crème fraiche.
Those with a sweet tooth will not be disappointed. The menu includes “strawberries & cream” mini macaroons; rhubarb and custard cupcakes made with olive oil instead of butter and the natural sweetness from the rhubarb, replacing sugar. Trifle made with real fruit, low fat custard sprinkled with cocoa nibs served in a shot glass, and a jam roly-poly served with a fresh organic strawberry compote on a bamboo tray. In keeping with the punk rock theme, dishes will be decorated with iconic slogans and images of the era so you really can have your cake and eat it too!
A special cocktail inspired by the Sex Pistols and other punk influences includes the delicious ‘God Save The Queen’. Those seeking a milder form of rebellion will enjoy the long list of non-alcoholic cocktails and teas.
A punk rock playlist inspired by musicians from the era has been created to enhance the atmosphere, in the sophisticated surroundings of this iconic London bar.
The menu will be served in the Met Bar from April 22 to May 8, 2011, from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. Monday through Sunday and is priced around $43 CAD plus service.
Understanding the Metropolitan
COMO Hotels and Resorts currently owns and operates two Metropolitan hotels, in London and Bangkok. They share dynamic elements: a contemporary east-west aesthetic, youthful staff, a COMO Shambhala Urban Escape and a lively members’ bar. Both hotels have restaurants regarded as gourmet destinations in their own right. They are city hotels that stand at the centre of the action – both physically and in the city’s psyche. They are places where things happen, attracting creative travellers who seek both the high-octane lifestyle as well the peace and calm that comes with clean-lined modern design. This unique potential to experience two different worlds – the energy of a vibrant metropolis, and serene escapism within the hotel’s calming confines – is what defines the Metropolitan life.
