Day of the Dead De-LightMet Bar 2010 |
September 28, 2010. (London, UK)-The Met Bar is taking a different approach to Halloween this year, by celebrating Mexico’s iconic Day of the Dead festival. Commemorated annually on November 2nd, ‘Dia de los Meurtos’, is a festival of remembrance in honour of souls departed. Colourful iconography commonly typifies the event, principally Sugar Skulls and Mexican orange Marigolds. The Met Bar will be celebrating the run-up to the festival with a ‘Day of the Dead De-Light’ afternoon tea and an exclusive party on Saturday 30th October 2010. Taking inspiration from the occasion the Met Bar has updated the signature waist-friendly Afternoon De-Light dishes. Guests can expect cocoa nib chocolate cupcakes topped with sugar skull decoration, coffin shaped chilli-chocolate mud pies and traditional Mexican tea cakes filled with dark cherries, to the famous no-bread sandwich pots containing Mexican themed fillings, including a jalapeno foam, crayfish and tequila jelly, and chicken fajita with sour cream and re-fried bean mousse. Day of the Dead De-Light will be running for a limited period from 25th October – 2nd November 2010 (also including Sunday 31st October). The Met Bar will also be ‘observing’ Day of the Dead with a party for members and guests alike on Saturday 30th October from 9pm. The candle-light festivities will include Mexican-inspired cocktails, special guest DJ’s and plenty of colourful flowers, giant-skulls and decorative skeletons. Although fancy-dress is not essential – it is certainly encouraged. Understanding the Metropolitan: COMO Hotels and Resorts currently owns and operates two Metropolitan hotels, in London and Bangkok. They share dynamic elements: a contemporary east-west aesthetic, youthful staff, a COMO Shambhala Urban Escape and a lively members’ bar. Both hotels have restaurants regarded as gourmet destinations in their own right. They are city hotels that stand at the centre of the action – both physically and in the city’s psyche. They are places where things happen, attracting creative travellers who seek both the high-octane lifestyle as well the peace and calm that comes with clean-lined modern design. This unique potential to experience two different worlds – the energy of a vibrant metropolis, and serene escapism within the hotel’s calming confines – is what defines the Metropolitan life.
