Le Tour De Norfolk – Ready to Ride this Weekend
Delhi, ON – If you like to ride a bicycle, Norfolk County is the place to be this upcoming weekend (July 17-18) for the fourth annual Tour de Norfolk presented by Tim Hortons. Cheryl Nelson, one of the local Tim Hortons’ owners in Norfolk County supporting the event explains, “This is the type of event that appeals to a wide range of people and is a great fun activity for families to do together.” Participants are encouraged to go at their own pace and routes range in distance from 15 km to 160 km. The event attracts people of all levels of fitness and all ages from eight to 88. Rest stops along the way provide refreshments and snacks.
“It is an excellent opportunity to explore the quaint towns and villages, see and learn about the crops growing in the fields, and to explore the picturesque back roads of Norfolk County,” says Cindy Vanderstar, Promotions Coordinator for Norfolk County Tourism. Yvette Mahieu, event organizer and an avid cycling enthusiast adds that Norfolk County is a cyclist’s paradise with its quiet, paved roads and beautiful scenery.
Last year’s event attracted 650 cyclists who came from all corners of the province and from as far away as Michigan, New Jersey and Kentucky.
Delhi has a rich history in cycling dating back to the 1930s when Belgian immigrants brought their love of Belgium’s national sport to the area. Cycling memorabilia from that era as well as bicycles from the 1880’s will be on display at the Delhi Tobacco Museum and Heritage Centre as part of their exhibit entitled “Backpedalling”.
Brochures with registration forms are available at Tim Hortons’ outlets throughout Norfolk County and bike shops throughout Ontario. More information and on-line registration are available on Le Tour’s website at www.letourdenorfolk.com or call 519-582-1900 519-582-1900 . |
