Outer Banks CVB Launches Social Media Squad

Visitors Bureau Searches Online Fanbase For Prolific Posters To Serve As Event Press

(Manteo, NC) January 27, 2010  The Outer Banks Visitors Bureau is launching a new social media initiative to help promote the Outer Banks Restaurant Associations signature spring festival, OBX Taste of the Beach, March 11-14.  In an effort to tap into the power of ubiquitous social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, where the organization has a considerable online following, the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau is providing free accommodations and event tickets to five regular people with the passion for posting, who would serve as a sort of social media press corps.  To be considered, join the Bureaus official facebook site, and share why youd be perfect to help tell the virtual world what OBX Taste of the Beach is all about.  Instructions are posted at www.facebook.com/theouterbanks.

The passion that our Facebook fans have for the destination just blows us away, explains Lee Nettles, Managing Director of the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau.  Who better to spread the word about Taste of the Beach and show whats going on during the this four day seafood and wine festival than actual visitors?  Were hoping to bring together a diverse group, what were calling the OBX Event Squad, to share first-hand experiences with their audiences and introduce the Outer Banks and our events to a lot of new folks.

The OBX Event Squad will likely be utilized at other major events on the Outer Banks of North Carolina this year, and would be made up of different people each time.  To see a complete list of culinary events available for the Taste of the Beach festival, including cooking classes, tapas crawls, wine tastings, and special menus at locally owned, original restaurants visit www.obxtasteofthebeach.com or for a list of other events happening on the Outer Banks, visit www.outerbanks.org.
