Travels ontheglobe set to travel the world
After successful Montreal début, Torontos Revue Cinema and ontheglobe.com
launch unique travel-film series
November 8, 2009 The Revue Cinema, Torontos only community-run
not-for-profit theatre and travel and tourism site ontheglobe.com are set
for the Toronto launch of a unique travel and film series, Travels
ontheglobe. The presentations which have attracted Montreal audiences at
two leading art-house venues since their launch earlier this year. The
events consist of illustrated talks, multimedia presentations and film
screenings hosted by the self-styled cultural navigator Andrew Princz, who
takes you around the globe.
From the towering peaks of the mysterious Peruvian Inca settlement of Machu
Picchu to dancing on the outskirts of the Angolan capital of Luanda to the
discovery of the real Kazakhstan and its beautiful mountainous terrain,
gorges and archeological sites. This is Travels ontheglobe.
Travels ontheglobe accompanies viewers to magical places that have become
iconic, and others that may become just that. This series offers an
opportunity to travel without stepping out of your environment. The
presentations – the first of which is now scheduled for Toronto – offer
viewers first-hand insight into the countries cultures and peoples of the
globe. The evenings are accompanied by real-life journeys which are followed
by a short film, feature or documentary from the evenings profiled country.
Cultural navigator Andrew Princz of ontheglobe.com has traveled to over
fifty countries and has been published in publications including CNN
Traveller, the Wall Street Journal, or the CBC program Dispatches. He is
also the author of numerous travel guides including Frommers Budapest and
the Best of Hungary, and he recently updated the Fodors.coms guide to Cuba.
Princz specializes in tourism promotion and development in developing and
post-conflict countries.
The first of the series at The Revue Cinema takes place on November 22nd,
and will bring viewers to Peru where we will learn about the dispute over
the treasures of the Inca settlement in the clouds, Machu Picchu. The
presentation includes a CBC documentary aired on the program Dispatches and
produced by Andrew Princz, will be followed by DANZAK (20 mins), a short
film by Peruvian filmmaker Gabriela Yepes. Yepes recently won the Emerging
Filmmakers Showcase at the Cannes Film Festival for this production. The
film brings to life the culture behind the mythical scissor dance. Yepes
short film was recently invited to screen at the American Pavilion Emerging
Filmmakers Showcase at Cannes.
